Sharon, another excellent 'short' tour of old Limerick. During the 'Siege', St Ruth declared the walls were so poor they could be breached with roasted apples! But, the gallant women of Limerick drove off any attackers foolish enough to deign enter a breach with such ferocity & effectiveness that the earned a reputation for both beauty & ferocity!🗽🦸‍♀🦸‍♀🦸‍♀👊✊🤛🗽

Wow! 👏Thanks for uploading and sharing this incredible short home made film & music. I feel that I know that spot on the banks of the River Shannon. It's on the opposite side (note the ruined Norman Tower when they paddle in the boat) opposite where the University of Limerick now spreads out on the former 'Plassey House' (named after 'Plassey' in India, where the owner had served as Vice-Roy in Colonial days). The family of a friend of mine had one of those 🎣🛶'Fisherman's Huts' (Leasehold) where we stayed mid-1960's for a weekend of adventure.

i want to come as part of the erasmus exchange programm. Living in Limerick seems like an incredible experience so i hope to be accepted

When we were kids in school 1960's and History as taught was boring, one of the jokes we had, double entendre, was 'There's no future (career opportunities) in History' 😅

My late mother's family origins were in the Meelick/Parteen district. She had a grandmother 'Nan Halloran', which makes me 🤔wonder if there was a connection to 🩺Sylvester's family, as Caherdavin was 'in the country' on the Clare side of the Shannon back then.

👏Another fantastic doco on enlightened, visionary personalities of bygone years in Limerick. FYI, a 'Locke' Hospital was specifically intended for the treatment of venereal diseases. Toxic 'mercury' was a standard, but pernicious treatment modality. A case of 'the cure was worse than the disease'!😱😵‍💫☠

Great summary of some of Limerick's innovations & achievements since the late-eighteenth century. Proof of 'St Munchin's Curse' - having been cast out by the twin centrifugal forces of 1970's Economics & Politics to the far flung Antipodes, it's a source of great satisfaction to observe the many benefits of the development of a vibrant, diverse tertiary education & media environment in Limerick. My own humble involvement in the Limerick Student University Project Committee (Junior group of Limerick University Project Committee) in Secondary School during the late-1960's has clearly yielded a rich harvest.

Away back in the 1970's I worked as an apprentice electrician on the construction of one of the Reynolds Brothers 'Ballrooms's. It was called the "Jetland " and was constructed near a football ground. I daresay that it is no longer a Ballroom, but I wonder if the structure still stands?

I'd really like to go there and to some key places like Ardagh and Herbertstown for the 1867 fenian risings and the place where my family comes from. Love from Chicago. ☘ A lot of the families from there came tot he same place together. Clancy, McNamara, Hickey, Slattery, et al.
